While checking my page views on Google + on Sunday(last) at 7:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) I had 1,024,571 views. At 12:03 a.m. Monday I discovered that I only now had 964,924 views! The Oracle of Ottawa was shocked that my Google + account was now counting backwards. What ever could be the cause of that?
Freedom of Speech is now selective?
Well it just so happens that the Oracle of Ottawa was making some pretty cutting comments on videos that were describing that insane Alibaba initial public offering that went off last week on the New York Stock Exchange. The Oracle of Ottawa didn't agree with the whole thing at all.
We have all heard about Gresham's Law, which states basically that bad money drives out good money. Well the Oracle of Ottawa is smart enough to be able to project that a little farther and to come to the stark conclusion that bad securities on a once good stock exchange will drive away all the good stocks. When you are ready to allow old thing, no matter how big it is, for one dollar more, we are on a real slippery slope people.
Of course the whole thing was a rather strange glitch that I am sure the best and brightest at Google are on top of. But it does give one pause doesn't it? The Oracle can't but help feel that if I only commented on cute and cuddly kitten videos nothing regarding my page views would have occurred. But what ever you do, don't comment on peasant Chinese securities offerings of Variable Interest Entities on the New York Stock Exchange!
God! What a haul it was! Finally finished reading George Ritzers monster book on globalization, entitled Globalization - A Basic Text. Yes, dear reader, the Oracle of Ottawa read it so you wouldn't have to. Drier than all the sand dunes in Libya. But in conjunction with the Oracle of Ottawa's Thinking About Thinking Project, I think I have made several breakthroughs! You don't need the Oracle of Ottawa to tell you that there is really something fishy with this globalization crap. When you hear the knuckle dragging social Darwinist's of the Conservative Party of Canada going on about its wonders you know you have to be worried. And when you are sitting at home in, say, Southern Ontario, waiting for your first unemployment check, that you are not going to get, because your workplace just left for Mexico or China without you, then you will know that globalization is a crock of crap. How did it all come to this?
Milton Friedman - Fooled ya!
It is all a very convoluted and twisted tale. The two names you will hear the most often are Adam Smith and David Ricardo. The right wing Chicago School economist will go on endlessly about the benefits of the Invisible Hand as first written about by Adam Smith, then this will lead invariably to a long dissertation on the brilliance of Comparative Advantage. Now the Chicago School is big and unquestioned ever since Milton Friedman did his big thing in Chile, you know that miracle story? But when you really look at the whole thing closely today, you see it was all an engineered set up. It seemed to be old Milty's big rush to get into the Ivy League. Never happened, alas. Now you will hear about the miracle of the Chicago Boys, but did you hear about the bits about the Ford Foundation and the United States State Department? Geez, you soon come to realize that once with the full unimpeded power of the United States of America you could make darkness happen at noon! Let us just say that the playing field was altered somewhat before the said great experiment even started! And of course that coup thing had nothing to do with the "successful" outcome...

Well, the Oracle of Ottawa has discovered two new logical fallacies that allow this crap to be continued to be sold. The first fallacy I call Era Displacement. For example comparing the workings of comparative advantage in the time of David Ricardo to the modern world of today! Workers at the time of Ricardo who were engaged in so called foreign trade were not much better off in respect to one another, more or less. In todays modern world, there are great differences between the workers of the first world and the third world! And when you allow the capitalist corporate pigs to carry off our factories to third world countries, you are essentially allowing them to export unpaid for surplus labour back to the originating country, got it? Talk about adding insult to injury! Ponder that for a moment! And soon your first world country will be transformed ever so slowly to a third world country! Don't believe me? Just ask anyone that lives in say Windsor, Ontario...
Working through another problem....
The second fallacy is very similar to the first, but very subtle, I call it the fallacy of Proportion Displacement. Free trade between similar countries of social development will more or less work pretty well. But so called free trade between a first world country and a third world country is a total rip off for the citizens of the first world country, and the citizens of the third world country. The only ones that really laugh all the way to the bank coming and going are the right wing economists and the global corporate whores, of no fixed address.
Now the Oracle of Ottawa has a solution to these two newly discovered fallacies. See my blog post entitled "A Gold Standard For the Rest Of Us". (Not a neo-con rant...) Totally solved it didn't I? And by the way, it was not Karl Marx who first coined the concept of surplus labour, it was Adam Smith! Can you find the exact reference in The Wealth of Nations? No? Some economist you are!

It was a great relief for the Oracle of Ottawa, as we live in the end days, that we got one last chance to see in public media, in Canada, the greatest living voice of left wing dissent. I am of course referring to the legendary Noam Chomsky. The occasion was a lecture that he gave at University of Toronto, Hart House, Great Hall on or about April 07, 2011. The Oracle of Ottawa got to see it on TV Ontario on October 29, Saturday last. I am in the habit of always watching this lecture series on Saturday. But to see the great Noam Chomsky was indeed a very special event. I am only in my fifties and already I hate traveling, it must be way worse when you are in your 80's!

But there have been lessor people of the far left who have been refused entry visas to Canada lately, a certain British Labour MP comes to mind, it perhaps must be that Mr. Chomsky is an American citizen that allowed this memorable event to even happen? How long do you think this will go on? The Oracle of Ottawa soaked it up. The way things are going in Canada today I couldn't help but think of that popular T-shirt design of the 1970's of the little mouse giving the diving eagle the "finger"! The last defiant act.

Noam Chomsky slowly and masterfully delivered the complete playbook and all foot note hidden agenda's of the New World Order, and the 'Harper Government', that are soon to come or have already taken place. At several points the Oracle of Ottawa must admit, that he felt that all was already lost. What gave this lowly word pecker great cheer was the rapt faces of the youngsters and the oldsters that were in attendance. Forgive me, but, the event of the Sermon On The Mount came to mind over and over! Perhaps all is not lost! It appears that not everyone has sold their immortal souls for an M.B.A. degree and a lifetime of corporate maze running possibly ending with possession of the "corner" cubicle.
There is just that one bit that won't get out of my head. The key to the whole neo-liberal globalizing algorithm. And that is, first, to underfund what you want to destroy, wait for the complaints, and then privatize it all! It is just like what is going on in Canada at this very moment! It seems that the ancient and great tradition of the Social Contract is slowly being broken down ever so slowly right before our very eyes. One can not but help to think of Jane Jacobs and The Dark Age Ahead.

Vic Toews is currently the Minister of Public Safety, in the present Harper government. Today the "Omnibus Crime Bill" has been introduced in the House of Commons. All the cabinet members were therefore out doing the media rounds...Some ministers are better at this then others. Minister Toews caught the CRFA call to spread the word..on Michael Harris Live at about 1:45 - 2:00 p.m.. The Oracle of Ottawa was driving at the time and therefore caught the conversation accidentally.

The bits I caught were about all the "criminal lovers" in Canada. The likes of such nefarious organizations as the Canadian Bar Association and that real evil bunch of criminal lovers the John Howard Society!! Upon regaining control of the car, I pondered how often in the past I have heard a Minister of the Crown besmirch his own professional body. For the life of me I cannot think of another example.

The CBC, the "State Broadcaster" replayed several times a clip of a spokesman from the Elizabeth Fry Society commenting that if these methods of preventing crime worked so well, then the United States Of America should be the safest place on Earth! In fact the United States is listed in The Worlds Most Dangerous Places (Fifth edition!) as one of the 26 most dangerous places on earth. I suppose the present Conservative Government thinks that the Americans are lonely...

Even the most ordinary people have the basest talent of recognizing greatness. For example when you are first introduced to the works and proofs of Euclid in primary school you know that if you live to be one hundred years old Euclid will no doubt still be a very famous figure of western civilization. According to the deficit numbers and all that big bad debt, how on earth can the Canadian dollar be trading at a premium to the United States dollar? The first thing a good Conservative will quip is that are banks are so sound. Don't fool yourself. They just haven't got caught yet! Could it be that all that hot Bilderberg Group advised money is flowing into Canada in the expectation of a future event? Say the wildly improbable dream of a Tory majority? Third world corporate tax rates, A Wal-Mart from sea unto shining sea....The first minimum security penal colony in the New World? Okay the second...I will give that title to the United States...the shit is really going to hit the fan when it finally dawns on Bubba...

It is a very simple algorithm, I call it A, B, C, Anybody but Conservative! When you vote, ignore the Conservative candidate, and then simply pick the best candidate remaining. Don't worry if it be Liberal, NDP, Green Party or hell even the Bloc Quebecois! If the Liberals or the NDP get that 12 seat majority the international hot money will drain out of Canada faster than a Texas hot tub pierced by a .357 Magnum handgun blast!

Just think of it. The corporate tax rates will rise. And then the trickle will turn into a flood. The Canadian dollar will float down to a nice, say, 69.8 cents U.S. Woo-Hoo! Now you can find a job in Windsor and London Ontario! Lets not raise the corporate tax's to 19%, lets raise them to 40% ! Just like in the 1960's!
Sure some corporate bums will bail, mostly the ones we don't want here anyway! Soon all the required and desired social programs will be up and running, the infra-structure will be built and rebuilt. This will run up the debt a little more and will keep the Canadian dollar down to a job seeker rich environment. For decades to come, you know, it is just like stacking the Senate! (And I like the idea behind the chamber of sober second thought...and myself? I don't want it dinked with. The Oracle of Ottawa expects to be appointed to the Senate one fine day. The perfect end to a perfect life...)
Then, mark my words, something very strange will happen. You will have a lot of the finest corporate outfits in the world who are not already here, coming here. All the others will take advantage of the ideal social state to commit large sums of capital to enable themselves to stay here in presence into the far future. I certainly hope all you youngsters out there ditch the Game Boy and Level 2 of Special Ops on voting day to get out and get this job done! (Gotta go, and get some Canadian dollar puts, down the range....)

The past is easy, it's the future that's the bitch. That, in a nut, is the problem of conservatism. A wonderful book by James John Guy called " People, Politics And Government " in its fifth edition no less, can fill us in...

One of the biggest weaknesses of conservatism is this inherent backward view. And the eventual collapse due to the the ever growing belief that the office becomes personal property. Have you ever noticed that it is always the conservatives squawking for term limits? It is only because of term limits that they get into office at all! Have you ever noticed that amalgamation is always done by conservatives? They cannot stand the concept of "countervailing power". When you amalgamate, it is so much easier to get your brat and your useless brother- in law a job. And you guessed it! The reason we still have child poverty and no national daycare is that if the kids grow up in a balanced and equitable environment, complete with good toilet training there would be no one left in 15-20 years to vote conservative!
Also one of the standard phobias that eventually destroy a conservative government is paranoia! Let us refer to James John Guy again....
