'Harper Government' - Type IV - Terminal

Tonight Ottawa is a stinking roiling mess of shocked silence. You know it is worse than bad when in today's Question Period, John Baird, the bum boy of Foreign Affairs, was asking what time it was near the end of Question Period! Yes indeed, the sweat of the erstwhile Straussian, was dripping through the fat of his worthless body. Much to the Oracle of Ottawas surprise, Steve Harper did not stick around to hear the music play. He and his closet cronies scrambled to the jet that would remove them to somewhere in South America like a pack of rats scurrying across the tundra.

 Although the talking heads of the old vulgar media are playing this as a crisis, you ain't heard nothing yet Dear Reader. At some point the connection of the Prime Ministers Office to the Bilderberg Group is going to come out. When that finally drops, it will be a royal scandal. When all the red meat, grass roots, conservatives find out that the 'Harper Government' is just a mere puppet for a secret society, that will be a scandal. Many old hands in Ottawa tonight are wondering about the present forward motion of Preston Manning's right wing revolution. It seems that the remainder of the Laurentian consensus has more life than the right wing wacko politico's thought.

But the saddest and yet most enjoyable events of the day were watching the shocked reactions of the green as grass conservatives, that thought Steve was better than all that, react. Some of them are just about sick to death. Wait for it. They are now discovering that their whole lives and political careers are nothing but a joke and a lie. The Oracle of Ottawa loves watching hicks hit the wall at a hundred miles an hour, and noting the splatter pattern.

In the near future you will soon see that some faces will be absent, and will not return. The names will shock you Dear Reader. The friends will desert, no one will come. Who could have imagined that the whole thing would be brought down by a spud headed skidmark from Prince Edward Island? Soon Marjory LeBreton will again be a high school drop out housewife in Barfhaven, free to spend less and live better at the local Wal-Mart, were she and John Baird will have coffee, with Little Polly Poilievre, Well at least on the days when they don't have certain appearances to make....

Well dear readers, it has been a very relaxing summer, so far. The Thinking About Thinking project has hit a very rich vein. The Oracle of Ottawa has been pursuing it with all his vigor. But computer administration calls for a round of slight attention. It was in the deepest dog days of summer that it was announced by Bell Media that the "pay wall" to the Globe and Mail, Canada's national newspaper was going up! It appears that they no longer like being the most visited news site in Canada!

Now, anyone that knows about such things, can readily tell you that the Globe and Mail is still 85% owned by the Thompson family and 15% owned by Bell. Why these people are so rich that they could bar all advertising on the web site and the hard copy newspaper and give it away as a free daily and still make a ton of money from it! Influence is all rather priceless isn't it? Yes indeed.

Enough is enough. The Oracle of Ottawa is damned if he is going to pay to read the news on the internet! A substitute for the daily spot that the Globe and Mail held in my daily rotation was very easy to fill.Yes, dear reader,  the Oracle of Ottawa has substituted in the main news page of Canada's "state broadcaster" the good old CBC! There will never be a pay wall at the good old "state broadcaster" and I must say, they have certainly been trying harder with the use of my tax dollars and their site is a whole lot better in every respect than the tired Globe and Mail. And, of course,  the pleasure of fucking Bell one more time is rather, well, priceless! And the Thompson family should remember the good advice of old Roy or Lord Thompson of Fleet; you must be really really careful who you hang out with....

It is the Oracle of Ottawa's fondest wish and hope that all my fellow Canadians do the same! And while we are at it, let us help the good old CBC make up the recent 'Harper Government' budget cuts by making sure that upon each and every free visit to the CBC news site that you click on all the ads! At least once! And unlike the ads at the Globe and Mail they will not load malware and spybots into your computer,(it was all so bad, that adblock plus had be permanently deployed...) and your browser will not crash! Happy surfing!

The Oracle of Ottawa knew it was going to be hot. But the Oracle of Ottawa had no idea it would all be so bizarre! Yes, dear readers, it was Question Period in the House of Commons again today, after a one week break. There is Bill C-30 and the new and rapidly breaking scandal of the Robo calls which the Oracle of Ottawa has dubbed Robo-Gate! And which I predict will ultimately lead to the downfall of the Tory Bund of Darkness.

 And as hoped, Question Period was just wild. It was revealed that it was the Liberals (!) that were behind the "vicki leaks" Twitter site! I have to admit I was very proud of Bob "The Builder" Rae. I did not think that the Liberals had it in them any more. Perhaps there is hope after all for the natural party of Leadership of Canada.
 But the real good bits came after Question Period! Usually that part after Question Period; "Points of Privilege" is a total bores nest. But not today. It was the most bizarre thing the Oracle of Ottawa has ever witnessed while watching the proceedings in the House.

It all went on for quite a while, and the language got all legally obtuse on the Oracle of Ottawa, but I believe that the nut of the thing was that some Tory back bencher actually got the Speaker of the House to find the online personality "Anonymous" in contempt of the House of Commons! Yes, I know, not even the Oracle of Ottawa could make this up! This online entity has got the 'Harper Government' Bund totally in a panic! They can not control this, and there are in near total panic. It was all a total jaw dropper! Thank you God for Anonymous.... The first internet meme that has been found in contempt of democratically elected Parliament! Every one take a bow!

What a difference a week makes! Or, who would have figured that the 'Harper Government' would have peaked over the hump so soon! It is all down hill from here Bubba! It is also amazing what you can glean from the Globe and Mail Friday edition. Why if you are very preceptive, and able to think critically in a sane and somewhat linear manner, you can figure out pretty much what is going to happen next week! Take for example the nice compact piece by Dean Beeby, entitled Truce called in CBC dispute...

It seems that the Tory members of the Access to Information and Ethics Committee have agreed to return the Pandoras Box of sealed CBC documents. I guess the thought of future endless feature programs analyzing the Tory Man Love Triangles from every possible angle (sic) has somewhat taken the inquisitive edge from the stark raving nuts Tory Bund. The Oracle of Ottawa has received  confirmation already that one Mad Hatter press baron in Quebec is just livid. It seems that all the money in the world and a strong Conservative majority is no match to having your hind grinding exposed on the "State Broadcaster" after all! Sort of like, Let's Make It Better, but not right now. I wonder if the Mad Hatter of Qu#b#c#r has figured it all out yet? What month of the day is it?

But if one peruses the want ads at the back of the Report on Business one can see a real ground shaker coming down the road. Why, it seems that ALJAZEERA is coming to Canada! They are posting 15 positions, and a dozen of them are for many multiple candidates! All you poor bastards that have been suffering in abandoned industrial buildings in seedy industrial parks under the guise of Sun Media newsrooms, your Moses (Allah?)  just entered town! Brian Dunstan is going to go over the top after all! You can be a prick, you can have "the power", you can be a jerk that everyone is afraid of, you can pay as little as you can get away with, but only for a while. Even God couldn't run the Sun News empire by himself! Perhaps for the speculative types, a large short sale is in order, along with the purchase and sale of a raft of near options....There will be blood  and gold for the brave.

Even the dumbest Sun news "intern" serf can figure out who will pay more. Sun News Quebec, or ALJAZEERA of Doha, Qatar! It seems that ALJAZEERA is on a mission from God. Money is no object. Many "media" outlets of all persuasions are soon to be picked clean. It will be sheer heaven to watch one certain stock tank to utter oblivion... What insane actions will this cause? Will the police have to be called? Allo Police??

One day you are on top of the world, all powerful, the next day your toast! Will the Harper Government intervene in straight up good old fashioned capitalist competition? Any thing is better than Sun News...

A Most Excellent Book For Serious Bloggers

For all virtual actuarii we attempt at each post to improve. Even though most of us are blessed (or cursed) with a compulsion to push on no matter what, some solid background provides much comfort and density. The major problem today is that an in depth and readable history of mass media is very rare on the ground. But the Oracle of Ottawa was very fortunate Friday last, while on yet another book crawl, to come across utter and absolute gold! It was the book I dreamed about and very nearly sure that there was no such thing to be had at any price. Thank God I was wrong yet again...

I found my very own copy of The Press And America - An Interpretive History Of The Mass Media, FIFTH EDITION! In hardcover no less. It was a very good day indeed. I was in rapture immediately. It starts with the Acta Diurna that was posted regularly in the Roman Forum from 59 B.C. to 222 A.D.and ends with the New Journalism to 1984 A.D. And the writing throughout is very readable, like that of a very old experienced hand.. Now long gone, buried and muzzled by the corporate whores who now rule the universe of type... It is also very tastefully illustrated throughout. And most important to me is that it contains an index entry for my "mentor" and over all inspiration Hunter S. Thompson, the great Doctor.

The major reason that this book is so important is that it relates the history of the "Press" in very great detail and explains all the bumps and victories along the way. And you soon realize that if you are posting to a blog regularly, you are part of this very long and important history. What you are doing even if you do not realize it, is that you are carrying on and are part of a very great and responsible duty that a free and stable society simply cannot do without. It all sort of gives purpose and reason to carry on no matter what, doesn't it?
